Prepare the client

Point your 3.3.5a client
and start playing

Two ways in, one realm. If you already have a copy of the game on 3.3.5a, you change one line of text and you are in, with nothing to install. If you do not have it and you are on Windows, the launcher downloads it, verifies it and leaves the realmlist set.

One single line to changeWith your client, nothing to installOptional launcher, Windows onlyReversible at any time

Optional launcher

Windows only, and only if you do not have the game yet.

3.3.5a client

Build 12340. Your own copy works, if you have one.

Your own account

A Frosthold one, not a Battle.net account.

Install

The launcher, Windows only, downloads the client, checks every file and sets up the realm. If you already have the game on 3.3.5a, pick your system below and do it by hand: it is one line of text.

  1. 1

    Create the account

  2. 2

    Download the launcher

  3. 3

    Let it verify

Route in

Your way into the realm, step by step

Do them in order. When you finish you will have the client pointing at Frosthold and an account ready to log in.

Step 1

Create the account

Pick a username, an email and a password. We do not ask for phone or country.

The password takes 8 to 16 ASCII characters: that is a limit of the 2010 client, not ours.

Create account →
Step 2

Get a 3.3.5a client

You need a copy of the game on version 3.3.5a, build 12340. If you already have one, skip the launcher. If not, on Windows it downloads the game and checks every file against its hash.

The launcher does not host the game: it downloads and verifies it. The version shows at the bottom left of the login screen; if it says anything else, it will not connect.

See FAQ →
Step 3

Set up the realmlist

Open realmlist.wtf with a text editor and leave a single line inside: the one that says set realmlist.

It lives inside the CLIENT language folder, not the game root. The one the launcher installs is esMX, so it goes in Data/esMX/. If you bring an English client, it will be Data/enUS/.

Copy the line →
Step 4

Open the game with its executable

Start Frosthold.exe, or Wow.exe if you bring your own client. Blizzard’s official launcher updates the game and breaks the connection.

Type your Frosthold username and password, not a Battle.net account.

See realm status →

Before opening the game

  • Frosthold account created
  • realmlist.wtf inside the language folder
  • Client on version 3.3.5a (12340)
  • You are opening the game executable, not Blizzard’s official launcher

If something goes wrong

The same three stumbles

The realm does not show up

Almost always the realmlist: an old line was left below, or the file was saved as .wtf.txt. Check that only one line remains.

Check if the realm is online →

It says the version does not match

The client updated itself, usually from opening Blizzard’s official launcher. Go back to a 3.3.5a copy and open it with its executable.

Back to the steps →

It will not take my password

The 2010 client does not handle accents or unusual characters and cuts at 16. Use only letters, numbers and basic symbols.
