Realm

Changes from the original

Frosthold runs on a 3.3.5a core. Here are the rates the game applies right now and what stays exactly as it was. It is the second thing worth reading before you roll a character.

Rates

The realm rates

These figures are the same ones the rest of the site reads: they come from the realm configuration, they are not typed by hand on this page. If a rate changes, this table changes with it.

Rates compared with the original game. x1 means unchanged.

Experiencex8x24You level up eight times faster than in the original.

Recruit a Friend, in detail

With Recruit a Friend experience is not doubled: it is tripled. The game grants a bonus worth twice the base rate on top of the normal experience, so x8 becomes x24, not x16.

Reputation is an exact double: x8 becomes x16.

The bonus stops working at level 60. That is a cap in the game itself, not a realm decision.

Differences

What changes and what does not

The rule of this page is simple: only what is configured and confirmed gets written down. Anything missing here is missing because it is not settled yet.

What changes

  • Levelling is faster: x8 experience.
  • Green and blue items drop more often: x4.
  • Creatures drop twice the gold: x2.
  • Weapon skills (x3) and professions (x4) rise faster.
  • Reputation rises x8 and honor x3.
  • Recruit a Friend multiplies experience and reputation, and only up to level 60.

What does not change

  • Gold from quests stays at x1: quests pay the same as in the original.
  • The content is patch 3.3.5a content: the same maps, the same quests and the same dungeons.
  • There is no shop, no paid items, no sold levels and no perks for donating. Everyone plays on the same terms.
  • It is still an emulator: there are known bugs, and those are not fixed by changing a rate.

What is not written here yet

These options are missing above because they are neither configured nor confirmed. We would rather declare the gap than invent a value: when one is settled, it gets written on this page.

  • Cross-faction play: mixed Alliance and Horde groups.
  • Dual specialisation and the cost of resetting talents.
  • Raid sizes.
  • Realm-specific commands.

Phases

If the game hands you something from a phase that is not open

The realm opens content in phases and the emulator does not always respect that line: an item can drop, an enemy can spawn or a quest can be completed from a phase later than the one that is open.

When that happens it is an emulator bug: it is not a prize and it is not a hidden feature. Report it and do not repeat it. Exploiting a bug on purpose to gain an advantage counts as cheating, and that one is in the rules.

An item obtained that way may be removed when the bug is fixed. If that ever happens, it gets explained at the time instead of being done quietly.
